In the past I have seen (and used) many functions in PHP that essentially serve the exact same purpose – they get specific elements from a page URL. They usually use some kind of regular expression to achieve this and are often around 10-15 lines in length. More recently I have discovered that these functions are pointless and have been since the advent of PHP 4.

Understanding CSS positioning
When working with CSS, I have constantly encountered one particular property that is grossly misused – the position property. If you check out the source of almost any website you will see plenty of elements with randomly defined position properties. I just thought I’d clear up some of the confusion, as understanding this property will make your life significantly easier when creating layouts.
Why task killers are bad for your Android phone
I’ve been an Android user for a little over 6 months now – I started with an HTC Desire and more recently I upgraded to an HTC Desire HD thanks to the awesome people in management in my office. Aside from the HD making me feel like I’m carrying an LCD TV around in my pocket, I’m thoroughly pleased with the upgrade. Anyway – that’s all besides the point. What I’ve gathered you all here to talk about is the issue of task killers. If you don’t know what that is then you don’t exactly need to carry on reading this as it doesn’t really apply to you. Task killers are apps that you can use to manage your running processes and apps on your Android phone – you can use them to stop any process you like thereby saving memory, reducing CPU usage and ultimately prolonging your battery life. At least, that’s the theory.
Project: The Brothers Streep

The Brothers Streep are sweet. They are so sweet in fact, that I decided to make them a website. They were initially a small 2-piece acoustic comedy group and have since developed into a less small 5-piece acoustic comedy group. They’re a fun group of guys who make people laugh for a living and they are good at it.
Project: Monique Mouissie

Monique is a talented artist that I’ve had the pleasure of working with. She does photography (mostly wedding photography) as well as design (mostly print) and illustration. Her skills are considerable and I highly recommend browsing round the website and having a look at some of her work. You won’t regret it.
Project: Press Start

Press Start is a site for gaming nerds. I consider myself in this category even though I’ve never played World of Warcraft and I barely do any form of online gaming. The idea behind Press Start was for it to be slightly different to the other gaming sites out there in that it is uniquely South African and it tends be much more informal and “irreverent” when compared to its counterparts. When I started working on Press Start there was already an existing website in place that had a rather loose framework of its own. I had to work with this existing website and modify it to be what it is today.
